Compare production approaches
DIY AI tools vs hiring a video production service
Use your phone or an AI tool when you want to own the production work and have time to record, iterate and edit. Hire a freelancer for a defined specialist task, a studio for an agreed finished film, or a filming company when the project needs genuine people, locations and performances. The right choice follows the evidence and deliverables you need.

Five ways to make your video
| Approach | Cost model | Your time and control | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Phone filming | Existing equipment; add editing, sound and permissions as needed | You record and edit; direct control over real footage | Founder updates, genuine demonstrations and simple local content |
| DIY AI tool, such as Invideo | Subscription or credits; see dated source comparison | You write, generate, select, edit and check outputs | Frequent experimentation with an internal editor |
| Freelancer | Hourly or scoped project quote | You manage the brief and handoffs; craft depends on the role | A defined editing, filming or animation requirement |
| Solivo AI Studio | Standard from $199 before tax | You supply facts and assets and approve previews; the studio handles agreed production | A scoped finished film using supplied assets and appropriate generation |
| Traditional production company | Project quote including the required shoot and post-production | You approve the plan and arrange necessary access; the crew records reality | Genuine people, locations, interviews and product actions |
Compare the work as well as the subscription
Invideo is a tool someone on your team can use, while Solivo is a commissioned production service. Both can be useful in different circumstances. A software plan and a finished-film quote describe different purchases. Include the time to learn the tool, prepare the script, select outputs, edit, check claims and export. If you already have that capacity, DIY may suit you. If a defined deliverable and production handoff matter more, compare scoped service quotes.
What kind of control do you need?
Direct tool access gives you immediate choices and responsibility for the full timeline. A freelancer or studio gives you influence through the brief, agreed review stages and revision terms. A filming crew can capture a real action that no model can establish. Ask for a sample of the kind of work you need and identify which decisions you want to make yourself. Control over factual accuracy still depends on approved evidence and careful review, whatever the production method.
A hybrid workflow can be the right answer
Record a real product demonstration on your phone, have a specialist clean up the edit and use generated supporting scenes only where illustration is appropriate. Or keep quick founder updates in-house and commission a launch film separately. Decide who owns each task and the final approval. Sharing the same asset list, script and delivery matrix prevents gaps between tools and suppliers.
Questions to answer before hiring
Write the answers before comparing prices.
- What must be real, and do we already have that footage?
- Who will write, edit, check facts and approve the final file?
- How many exports, languages and creative versions are required?
- How much time can our team realistically spend on production?
- What is the preview deadline, and when does its clock start?
- What revisions, rights, source files and exclusions does the quote specify?

The rows are different kinds of purchase: a software subscription, freelancer reference prices, AI production services and a filmed production service. They are not prices for the same advertisement. Amounts are reproduced as listed, and no 30- or 60-second price is inferred from a subscription or hourly rate. Next planned manual review: January 30, 2027.
Questions before you start
Is an agency always better than an AI tool?
No. Tools can suit teams with editing capacity and time to iterate. A service fits a defined handoff; filmed production is needed when real evidence must be captured. Compare your own requirements.
Can I bring an AI draft to Solivo?
Share it as a reference and identify which assets you have permission to use. The studio assesses whether it can be used in the agreed production; a draft does not guarantee every scene can be reproduced.
